The Remembrance Day assembly went well. Mr. Monkeyman and Superbanana did a great job as Masters of Ceremonies, Rubberlemons spoke clearly and was a candle lighter, FluffyKittens, Mr. Sizzlybacon, and Shadowdog hung the cranes on the tree. This assembly is always a good time to reflect on how lucky we are to live in peace. Mr. Hazell taught us that more Canadians were killed in World War I, 60 000, than in World War II, 45 000. The fighting in WWI was mainly in trenches where the conditions were deplorable! Men had to go to sleep cold and wet, and woke up cold and wet. There were 450 miles of trenches! What was an interesting thing you learned or saw today? Leave a detailed response. If your answers are deep-thinking and thoughtful, I will share them with Mr. Hazell when I see him next. Homework: Show your parents your interim report, and discuss your goals with them. Show them your evidence, proving why these are good goals. Have them sign your report, and return it with your evidence in the envelope on Wednesday. Math: Watch this video, 'How to Read a Decimal'. Social Studies: Finish your 'Next Steps' on your Ancestral Past assignment, and hand it in on Wednesday. |

I was really surpprised at how much information he knew about the world war 1 and I was really impressed.I am really thankful that Mr.Hezzel was able to come today to talk to us about the war. It was a good learning expirience. The video we saw today about world war 1 was so so sad.I couldnt believe that many people actually gave up their lives for us and expirience, and im so thankful for the people that did.During the video, I almost started crying. Its inhuman...I cant imagine being there...

I thought it was really cool what Mr.Hazell brought in, and I didn't know what the uniforms looked like, and that they had to go to sleep and wake up in soaking wet uniforms! I learned a lot today. See everyone Wednesday!

I never knew that fighting in trenches was so deadly. All the stuff he showed us was awesome I've never known that much about WW1. But now i do. Holding the rifle was awesome but heavy, it weighs at least 40 pounds even more than that. So see you guys on Wednesday

I was so surprised about how much Mr. Hazzel knew about the world war 1. I thought that it was interesting. I cant believe that the enemies would throw bombs that would poison the other peoples eyes. When I watched the video it was scary watching the French people taking over their trench and killing them. it was also scary how fast they came to their trench and just starting shooting and stabbing it was just scary. And I don't think I would ever be able to sleep with wet clothes or at least have wet clothes. it was cool watching the men train for war and how the enemies would start bombing their country or city. Ok bye now!!!

I was surprised how much information Mr. Hazell had. I don't think I would be able to live in wet clothes all the time. I am very grateful what those men did for Canada. See you all tomorrow bye!

A thing I learned is no mans land was scarier than I imagined! I learned that if you even put up you head to gaze upon the other army's line you would get shot. I learned you could only go into no mans land at night.

I learned that for a French soldier to shoot one of his own men on purpose would be unthinkable.

One thing I learned was that some women did fight in World War one! Not that many though. I am glad those men fought for us because I have freedom. It's just so sad and just... just brutal. They where tried, cold and wet and had to carry roughly 7 pounds of supplies! I saw on a show the food they had to eat during that time... Right now my mom is watching a show about horses in the war. Don't get me started. One thing I wish is that women had more freedom back then and could fight as well. I worry though if another world war starts, it would end pretty badly because nowadays we have nuclear weapons.
