There is a tool called a file and it really made my day because it rounded my stone and only because of its roundness it looks like an actual bird. But the thing about the file that I used was that it had a tip at the top which was really sharp. I used that to cut off two giant blocks of negative space that really got me going. Mostly the technique that I used to help me the most was probably how I hold the tools, because the stone is really soft and any wrong move can change the shape gradually. A challenge that I faced was that after a while, sometimes I didn't know what to do and so my progress was a little behind. Something easier this time was that my stone was already sort of round so I didn't have to round my stone as much, and something difficult was that I would easily change my angles my moving my hand which was hard to stop. Next carving session, I will work on shaping the wings, because I'm almost there and I can almost make out a bird. I am very proud of my soapstone and can't wait for next time! Okay, bye!

This time in soapstone I thought I got a lot done because at the start of soapstone carving today my soapstone basically still looked like a block but now it is looking amazing, now I can finally tell that it's a turtle. One technique that really helped me today was I tryed to muilty task so that I could have a good time talking with my friends while I am making progress on my stone. I don't think I had any challenges at soapstone today, I think I did very good. I think remembering to wet my stone while worked was eaisier for me today because on our first time we did soap stone I never wet my stone but today I wet my stone every time I was about to carve. Next session I am going to work on the fins of my sea turtle and rounding even more so that it will look marvellous. Bye see everyone tomorrow!

I know, the stones are really starting to take shape. It is amazing what a lot of effort can do. The tools I used were all the different files and the technique I used was rounding. Some challenges I was facing is, I was finding it hard to round "hard to get to" corners. That was so frustrating, because you have to be really careful that you don't nick yourself and that you don't round to much it becomes flat. Something that was easier this session is rounding the bottom and the legs, and something that was difficult for me was rounding the trunk.Even though it was hard. it is still very fun. Next carving session I will focus on the trunk, rounding the legs, and the ears. I m really excited to see the end result. It is going to be amazing. I can't wait!!! :-)

I don't know what the tool was called but it looked like a needle file with a triangular shape to it. The tool made my hedgehog super, duper smooth it blew my mind and made everyone around me feel how smooth it was. Carving out the spike details were a bit difficult for me because I got easily tired to make the spikes really deep. Next time I think I am going to carve out more spikes on the behind of my hedgehog. Hope everyone has a good night! Bye!

Actually, it was same time from the day we did almost last time, but almost all of our class did a lot of things today! I used the tool name file and saopcarving saw to round(which is one technique) and cut out the negative space from my soapstone's leg part. Those tools really helped me from the leg part, because mine is look likeI it is walking, so it needs lot of effort to take it out clear. I was really nervous when I was doing that part of my soapstone. Thanks for those tool and our soapstone teacher(am I allow to use her name? Nevermind, I'll just say teacher.). It was really difficult when I was cutting out the negative space from mine's leg part. I have to be careful because the four leg's direction was all different so I have to cut this leg, and that leg, and then this leg, that leg. I did well on that part, so I am now really comfortable doing the other part. After that, it was the easy part! I just have to roung some edges, so that it looks like a actual polarbear. I mean not actual but looks realistic. I took a grizzly bear(colour doesn't matter so..) toy and see if mine is going good. At next Wednesday, I am going to work on my polarbear's neck and head part! I am cutting some negative space from there, and round some, draw eyes on it to make it a polarbear! It will look like a polarbear becuase mine has no head(it is little funny but it's not funny!). Mine has just a square stone stretching out from it's body. I can't wait until next week!

I worked on my rounding today I had a hard time with it because I couldn't shape it the way I wanted it to look. Next time I will do more rounding because it is not rounded enough. and I used the file to round my bear maybe next time I will try to use a different tool.

The tool that was really helpful for me was the really skinny file. Something that was hard for me was making the area around the gecko's body lower than the rest. I was a bit easier this time because I was getting better at carving around the gecko. Next class I will do more carving around the legs.

Some of the tools that I found really useful were the carving file. I had some trouble with carving it, but it could of been worst. I also could see a really cool color in my stone. It was like a bright green. For the next session I will work on doing the same thing. And I can't wait until the party!!!!!

Hi! The tool that was the most helpful to me today was a thing called a gaucher i think. I don't know how to spell it and i think that is the name not to sure! The challenge i faced was trying to make the smooth part of my stone look like a bumpy rock, it took forever! The filing was much easier because I'm used to it now! I think I'm going to focus on the tail next carving session! Im so excited! Well, see you all tomorrow, bye!

I worked on rounding my stone today. I did not run into any difficulty yet but there will be more in the future. I used a rounding file the entire time I never needed a different tool. I am not sure what I will carve next time. See you all tomorrow :)

I wasn't there today but I had a great day at competition. I got first and trophy for my solo out of 27 people. And they were all 13 or 12 so that was exciting. I, super proud of myself.

The tool that helped me the most was the small saw\rounder. I didn't have to do as much rounding this time and I think that that was easier. next time I will focus on putting my shark on the post.

I worked on rounding the shape of my seal and carved out a piece for its chest. The tools I used were a file and saw. A little challenge I faced was smoothing the inside corners of the arms where I had cut for its chest which was difficult to get the file without scratching other places of my seal. It was fairly easy because now I know how to properly round to make the surfaces smooth. I am going to smooth out the flippers at the front more and the back for next time

The tool that worked best for me was kinda like the big file I guess you could say, it worked for me because it rounded really smoothly. I little challenged I faced was making the face round because before it was a block. It was easier this time because I understand des more what I was doing with my polar bear. Next time I'm going to make the face look more like a polar bear face and just lots of rounding so it looks like a polar bear. Bye, see everyone tomorrow!

The tool that helped me most was the rounding tool because I needed to round a lot. I think the process is going well I started working on the face today and I can actually see a bear now! The hard thing is how much time it takes! It takes a long time and sometimes I don't know what to do because sometimes I would finish something before Kathy got back to our table so I just kept rounding! Rounding is really important to making your animal look realistic! I'm not sure what I'll be doing next time! I'll probably round some more until Kathy tells me a specific thing to work on.

The tool that probably helped me the most was probably the bigger files because it help me round the bum of my bear quite a lot and it is a fast and efficient way to round sharp corners. The biggest challenge I had to face today was the bears head, this is because I had to first make the negative zone vanish with the saw and files then I made the shape of the bears head, ears and snout I am not fully done with his head but it's getting there. The easiest thing that I did with my soap stone was rounding my stones rear end because it was already partially done all I had to do was make it even more round than it was last session of soap stone. Next session I will mostly focus on making my bears head more realistic by rounding, and fixing any mistakes that I made earlier. See you all tomorrow! :D

I'm really happy with the progress I made on my soapstone today. Even though I've been away for two weeks, I think I got really far on my frog. The tool that really helped me was the file because my stone was really rough and I had to do a lot of sanding to do in order to move on to the next step. I found it challenging to use the tool that scrapes out stone because it was hard to dig in deep enough to get out the amount of stone I needed to.

today on my soapstone I finished cutting the legs out and the neck out. the rest of the time I was rounding my shell and neck. the tool that I used today was the file. I did not face any challenges today with my soap stone. my main focus for next time is to just round the shell more.

The file really helped me today to round the ears and the face of my elephant. I didn't have any challenges today. It was easier this time because I could see the shape of my elephant coming along and I knew the places I needed to round more. Next time I will focus on rounding the face and Cathie told me that next time I should drill my elephants trunk so it looks like the elephants trunk is curved into it's body.

The file really helped me yesterday. I did not face any challenges. I will still have to file my shell a little bit. Using the saw for my fins was easiest.

The big file really help me out today. The challenge that I had was keeping busy. It was hard to carve under the fins because it was so acquired. Next time I will be doing the face.

Cutting it dry helped me. The challenge was cutting through the hard minerals in my rock. Next time I might polish it and put it on a stand.

Rounding the head was easier and cutting out the tailfin was more difficult this time.
