Today we started 'A Novel Approach'. Mrs. Jensen modelled 'Visible Thinking' with the poem 'Poetry'. She recorded her thinking about the poem e.g. ideas about the meaning of the poem and questions she had. Then you had a chance to show your 'Visible Thinking' with the lyrics to Green Day's song 'Time of Your Life'. You found many poetic devices, since they are fresh in your mind from our poetry unit. Many of you also came up with some very deep-thinking ideas about the meaning of the lyrics. Leave a DETAILED comment about your thoughts on today's lesson.

I think it was about you shouldn't give up on your life and pick the path you want to go and not he path someone tells you to do

I think this novel approach thing is interesting. I wonder if we are going to be given a chapter book and have to read it over and over again to read for pleasure, info, etc. It was cool to be given a song and right all your thoughts on that page. I wonder if we will be given another song to do the same thing with tomorrow? Well see you all tomorrow! - EpicfaceManiac the one and only! :)

The text said to leave a detailed comment on todays sheet ok. I thought that the song was interesting. The author is trying to say to enjoy your life before time runs out. I think this song has many different reasons because it is trying to tell you to spend your life wisely, take the right paths and try new things that are out of your comfort zone. Also to have the greatest life you can have before time runs out. Another one is telling you that when you die it is unpredictable so do fun thing when you have the time/chance to do it take it! - EpicfaceManiac the one and only :)

Well, I think a novel is to long Epicfacemaniac. I liked the idea of this thing because you get to write what you think about the poem.

I think the message of the song was to have the time of your life and to never regret anything. Do stuff that you are scared of and maybe when you have done it you might like it. Take the right direction in life. Dont make mistakes in life because once you do it there is no going back. Treasure every moment you have with your loved ones because that might be the last memory you will have with that person. I can relate to that because the last memory I had before my grandma died was having tea and working on a puzzle with her so I have that memory treasured forever. Dont worry about dying because if you worry about that one thing you can be in a bad mood and that can wreak the fun people are having around you. Make new goals to accomplish. Dont feel bad about who you are. You are just like anyone else in this world. Don't bring yourself down because you will feel sad all the time. I also have a connection. I have a friend who always brings himself down. He is such a nice guy that when I see him like that it also brings me down. Also everyone on this planet is gifted and has a talent. And if you don't think you have a talent then you will just have to find it out yourself. When you're dead don't go back and say "Oh I wish I could have done this or that". This is your time now to do the stuff you might take for granted. Don't waste your time arguing with your parents because it is such a waste of time and while you were arguing you could be having fun doing whatever. Even if its doing your homework with them. Your parents will appreciate the time you had with them. They will treasure every moment with you because once you get older you will be seeing them less and less and before you know it that will be it. This song has a great message to everyone and I also like the band Green Day. I just wish people all over the world will learn what we did today and the message it will send you. Who picked out that song for us. I hope we get another chance to do what we did today but with different songs. Its my birthday on Jan.16. Everyone did a great job on their french plays today because I know how nerve racking it is to stand in front of the class so good job. For math today we are learning how to compare fractions. The new book "The Graveyard Shift" is a great book. P.E. tommorow! There is a lot of homework today. I hope there are going to be enough drivers for the field trip. I liked the game on the website yesterday but I really like the find grandpa one. In the song "The time of your life" I found a metaphor. I loved the meaning of the song but the singer was ok. It seemed like a older song but there is nothing wrong with that. Also don't think people living on the streets made a bad decision in there life. Maybe there dad or mom left them there. Don't gouge a book by its cover. I need to work on my homework so see you later. Bye.

I really enjoyed today's lesson. I also think it is a very good way to express your feeling and what you think. I think the song's lesson was to enjoy your life it is very short, and to capture the golden moments that were the most memorable in your life.

I thought the lesson was a good way to tell your thought out to the world! And how to check your understanding, and share your feelings. Only try to capture the best moments. The way Mrs. Jensen wrote down all her understandings on the page that helped me understand her feelings or the way she thinks and how she expresses her poetic devices?... anyways the song was trying to say enjoy your life, and try to live a good life. And! just try to keep all the bad things out of your way!! Ok Now BYE!!!

i think that it means you need to stop and think about every choice you make. you shouldnt just give up life and think that you arent worth any thing you just need to be happy and some choices may be wrong but you will get somthing good out of it.

I thought that the lesson was very clear on what to do and I think that I get the learning intention so far. It was a bit confusing at first but I started to understand more as I worked. I think that EpicFaceManiac was right about the paths you have to pick in life. Also that there are good and bad choices and one choice leads to more choices. See you all tomorrow.

I had fun today with the "Novel Approach,". I think the meaning of the "Time of Your Life," song was that don't waste you time because you only have so much time left. I felt a connection to the Shel Silverstein poem a while back. (At the time I really didn't understand what we had to show our work on the paper like that. I asked many people to tell me what we were doing because I was out of the room but they didn't really know). A "lesson learned" in time I think meant that we learned "don't waste your time" learned by the people who did waste their time. Today I was surprised not everyone agreed that there is no bad or good (black and white) choices. I AM NOT saying commet a crime or anything like that. I just think we should learn from our mistakes and a bad choice could lead to a good one so there isn't really any bad or good choices. I quotes from The Graveyard Book by: Neil Gaiman (IT IS AMAZING) "Face your life, it's pain, its pleasure, leave not path untaken." In the book it also has dead people giving advice not to waste your life and many, many other stuff (the depth has so many levels). I am trailing off topic, it says to do everything you can and leave no path untaken so there isn't any bad or good paths now aren't there? I also noticed for the past 9 years of going to school is that we are supposed to "learn from our mistakes"! So I rest my case on there are no bad OR good choices. Also the "fork in the road" like I said today, depression, anxiety and your mood could be a hard thing to go through while trying to follow your dreams. The song has very good lyrics but the tune wasn't for me but that's not the point of it.

I think it is about death because it sais make the best of life. Death is sometimes unpredictable. I believe he is also saying saviour the time you have here before you pass away. I think he is also saying I hope you made the best of life while it lasted. He sais "in the end its right" because that is how life go's. There is no way of changing it.

I thought the "Novel Approach" was interesting. I thought it was interesting because it just is a different way I guess to share your thinking. I liked doing that I would like to do that again. When I got home I was wondering why the teachers wanted us to do this Novel Approach. Then I kind of answered the question myself maybe so we know the what each poetic device means and so we really understand what this song is trying to tell the world! I think the meaning of the song is to make a mark. (make your life count). See you guys tomorrow.

I thought that doing the novel aproach was really fun.I thought that it really pushed my thinking and i think it pushed me to understand more about what the author was trying to say what the porpuse was etc,Since i have never reaplly done that to a poem.Doing the novel aproach showed me a new perspective about poems that I wouldnt have seen before if I were to just start reading a poem,I would be like "oh that was a good poem" and move on.

I think the novel approach was interesting. I think it will be nice to get better at reading and understand it more. It was interesting to look at pomes to try to see what they mean and figure out what the author is trying to get across to people. I think the time of your life song means to never look at life badly always try to look at it in a positive approach. Try new things and make the best in life because there is no going back. See you all tomorrow bye!
