| Only girls participated in Multiples Day. Go girls! Boys, lame sauce! Your Novel Approach strategy today was 'Synthesize and Evaluate when reading to deepen understanding'. You practiced with the poem 'Born to Stand Out', and many of you understood the Big Idea of "being who you are / being your own person". Leave a comment about a time when you have used this strategy in your own reading, and what it helped you to understand. Use a specific example. Today, Katie taught you how to draw using the Japanese Anime style. Tomorrow you should have a chance to continue working on your drawings. They are looking great so far. Homework: Math: Grade 6 - booklet p. 1, both sides. Middleton and Wilson - check their websites. (Our board has been erased!) Social Studies: The Current Events presentations started today. Remember that if you have committed to doing your Current Events on a certain day, you must do it on that day. Also, if you are not scheduled yet, you can let me know in the morning if you are ready to present and you can be added to the list. |

When I read Born to Stand Out it helped me figure out that the author was trying to say that it's good to be different.

I used this strategy in this poem I used to have. I don't remember all of it but the meaning was to think before you do stuff. I remember the last sentence " Before it becomes your destiny." This helped me understand what they were trying to say.

I used this strategy today in the poem "You were born to stand out". Well I've used it before its just that this is the only time I actually understood it. This strategy helps me understand what the poem was saying, and the poem was saying that " Its ok not to be perfect, just be yourself and don't care what others think about you". And it helps me in pictures.

I use Synthesize and Evaluate in some books or poems that I know that it could also have a deeper meaning, which I have not read books or poems like that in a while. I will have to soon!

When I Synthesize and Evaluate something it helps me understand the poem or the book I am reading. I also know that these kind of poems have a very deep meaning.

When I am stuck on a word I will sound it out until I can say the word and if I don't know what the word means than i'll look it up in the dictionary. I was sick today but i'm feeling better so hopefully I can come to school tomorrow. Sadly I don't think I can do water polo which sticks because I was really looking forward to it. I was so sad I couldn't make it to school today because me and Liam.p were supposed to be twins and wearing our Liverpool jerseys. I'm also sad I skipped school today because I missed out on drawing!!! Why!!!!!!! Sounds fun and I hope I have a opportunity to learn japanese art. Can't wait for tomorrow. Bye!!!

This strategy helped me when I was reading the book I thought about my own opinion and what the sentence I didn't get meant. I found the big idea! The book I was reading was Harry Potter and the deathly hallows

This strategy helped me on a book I read last year. I couldn't find what the big idea was so I synthesized (guessed sort of) and it helped me find out what the big idea was!! I liked drawing that guy it was fun. Mine was really bad though, I can improve on it. It was only my first time. See you guys tomorrow.

When I read the poem "Born To Stand Out" the leaning strategy Synthesize and Evaluate, really helped me understand the author was saying to always be yourself, NO one else. See you all today/Wednesday.

I've used the strategy synthesize and evaluate a couple times before. Once I was reading the end part of the book Divergent, and I couldn't find the big idea. But when I used this strategy it really helped me understand. I found the art yesterday really fun but also really challenging. See everyone tomorrow, bye!

Synthesizing and Evaluating help me find the meaning of the poem/story quicker then re-reading it over and over again.
